White-Nose Syndrome - Quebec

Bat with white muzzle characteristic of white nose syndrome The WNS is an emerging disease of bats in North America. Since 2007, it causes mass mortalities of bats in the North-Eastern United States. The spread of the disease seems epidemic, and new hibernaculum are affected each winter.


On April the 13th 2010, The ministry of Ressources naturelles et Faune (MRNF = Natural ressources and Wildlife of Quebec) released a note informing that bats affected by the WNS were found in Quebec through the active surveillance program of WNS.
